Mark Wahlberg Starrer Spy Film for Netflix Finalised with 7-Figure Deal
Academy Award-nominated actor Mark Wahlberg will soon be seen in a spy film on the lines of James Bond (but with a blue collar character for him). And if reports are to be believed, then Netflix, which has pitched hard for the streaming and co-production deal is dishing out a 7-figure valuation for the film.
'Our Man from Jersey', the film in concern, will be written by David Guggenheim, who has earlier scripted Safe House. He is also the creator of the Keifer Sutherland series Designated Survivor which ran for two seasons on ABC network, post which it was moved to Netflix. The Kurt Russell film Christmas Chronicles, which will see the second installment directed by Chris Columbus soon, also has him amongst the credits. Additionally, he and Netflix’s head of features Scott Stuber co-wrote Safe House for Universal Pictures in 2012. The film starred Denzel Washington and Ryan Reynolds. Safe to say, Guggenheim is Netflix’s darling.
This isn’t Wahlberg’s rookie project with Netflix either. He recently starred in Spenser Confidential, an action comedy based on the ‘Spenser for Hire’ novels by Robert B. Parker. With over 85 million viewers, it became the second most watched feature for the streaming service.
Meanwhile, Wahlberg and co-producer Stephen Levinson have been using the lockdown time to have meetings via Facetime to kick-start work on One Man from Jersey, along with Guggenheim. The film will be directed by Ori Marmur.
